Connect Fit Exercise Programme

The ConnectFit project is a FREE 10-week exercise programme targeted at getting people aged 60 and over more active! Our aim of this project is to forge new connections and a sense of togetherness within our community through exercise.

The ConnectFit exercise programme has been designed specifically for people aged 60 and over. Through-out this programme you would be performing resistance training with the aim to improve your health, fitness, and wellbeing. Research indicates that resistance training is a safe way to improve your strength and flexibility. Strength is particularly important to carry out many activities we do every day like getting out of a chair or climbing stairs.

Every step of the way you will be provided with expert support and guidance from IT Carlow researchers Conor and Lawrence. As it is a research project ran in conjunction with IT Carlow if you choose to take part you will be randomly allocated into 1 of 3 groups. For more details call Deborah from Carlow Sports Partnership on 0879121497 or email deborahfoley@carlowcoco.ie

Sports Capital & Equipment Programme Funding Webinar

Carlow Sports Partnership are delighted to announce an exciting Sports Capital Grant session for our clubs.

CALLING ALL CARLOW SPORTS CLUBS!

The session will cover the dos and don’ts of the Sports Capital programme and how Carlow clubs can come out on top.

Based on previous evidence, between 10%-20% of all applications were invalid, meaning that the applications were completed incorrectly. Only the top 75% of valid applications will receive funding, which is based on a scoring system.  The aim of this workshop is to increase the number of valid and successful applications submitted by Carlow sports clubs.

It is hoped that this event will help encourage more of our clubs to apply as the programme not only funds infrastructure work, it also funds non-personal sports equipment which can include protective wear, gym equipment, portable sports equipment, storage containers and much more. Its important for sports clubs to make an application large or small as the programme does support new and growing sports across Ireland.

This is your opportunity to gain valuable insight from experts on a programme from the experts in securing these grants. The deadline for applications is Monday 1st March 2021 so it’s important for clubs to get started on the application process in order to be ready for the deadline.

Cost: €5 per club

Síolta The Squirrel Returns, With New 'Nature On Your Doorstep' Adventures

6 New Nature On Your Doorstep Challenge Sheets

For People Of All Ages

We are delighted to welcome back Síolta The Squirrel with a new series of Nature on Your Doorstep and 6 new, colourful challenge sheets to encourage and assist people of all ages to explore their local natural and built environment.

In previous years, we ran a Family Explorer Challenge with events and family challenges designed to encourage families to get active outdoors, while exploring the wonderful natural heritage of County Carlow.  This year we wanted to create activities that were not site-specific, that children and their families could complete in their gardens or on the roads and pathways close to their homes.

With colourful photos and drawings and fun activities suggested by our mascot Síolta the Squirrel, the Nature on Your Doorstep challenges are mainly targeted at primary school-age children but can be used by anybody of any age, in any part of the country and are particularly suited to families working together.

Our Wildflower Walk Challenge encourages people to notice and record wildflowers while out walking and to encourage wildflowers in their gardens.

With the Minibeast Safari Challenge we offer suggestions for locating, learning about and protecting insects and invertebrates.

The Heritage Explorer Challenge suggests different ways of finding and researching local built heritage while the Garden Map Challenge; Map Your Walk Challenge and Garden Creativity Challenge look at fun ways to record what you find and use natural items in creative ways.

Each of our wonderfully colourful challenge sheets can be downloaded here:

We hope you enjoy these new Nature On Your Doorstep Sheets as much as we enjoyed putting them together for you.

Also, have You Consulted Any Heritage Organisations?   The following Websites are all referenced on our challenge sheets:
