Pep in Your Step

Carlow Sports Partnership invites you to join our online Walking for Fitness Workshop

which aims to assist participants to gain better health and fitness benefits from walking.

Frank Fahey of FitWALKireland has been at the forefront of fitness walking in Ireland for over two decades and will assist participants to put an extra ‘pep in their step’ by providing advice on posture, technique, and intensity and give tips on how to gain most functional fitness benefits from a walking session.

Walkers of all fitness levels (beginners and improvers) will find something to interest them in this workshop which will combine both theory and (easy, on-the-spot) practical elements.

Participants will also be signposted to videos on Power Walking, Stride Walking and Pole Walking.

Activities At The Urban Outdoor Adventure Hub

Water Sports At The Urban Outdoor Adventure Hub,

Carlow Town Park

With the many rivers flowing through our county, we are spoilt for choice in how we utilise them.

Kayaking, Stand Up Paddle Board & Fishing sessions are featuring among events at the Urban Outdoor Adventure Hub in Carlow Town Park this month.  This is a partnership project between Carlow Local Sports Partnership and Carlow Regional Youth Services and funded through Carlow Sports Partnership, Sport Ireland and Carlow County Council.

As part of the Urban Outdoor Adventure Hub Young people aged 12 – 17 years from across Carlow have been enjoying Kayaking on the River Barrow this the past week.  Despite the morning fog being slow to evaporate, the afternoon sessions have seen some glorious sunshine.  The laughter and craic on the Barrow have been infectious.  Pure Adventure and Carlow Regional Youth Services worked together to guide the young people through their 2-hour sessions.

Those who participated during the week were a combination of those who have tried these activities before, young people new to the area and also young people jumping at the chance to try new activities available on their doorstep. There are more activities planned for next week with Stand Up Paddle Board and Fishing on the schedule.

We intend to make fishing as a more regular fixture on our program of events,  so if you are aware of a young person aged 12-17 who is interested in any of the activities, they can contact Karen Mullins, Sports Development Worker, CRYS by email karen@carlowys.ie
